It's been a few months since I've touched this blog. It's due mainly tohaving some equipment problems.
The program I use to analyze the data is a VERY old DOS program that I hadrunning on a Win 98 computer. Well, the computer went belly up and Ihaven't been able to get the program to run on a newer Win XP (or evena Win 2000) computer. I've searched the Net for alternative programs butas yet, I've been unable to come up with one that will perform in a similar manner to the old DOS program.
I did find two programs that use the same algorithm as the old programbut neither one of those programs outputs results in any fashion thatI can use. Sooooo, I will continue the search.
There are, however, several things going on that I think I will use this blog to document.
The first is the start of the start of a new organization. The NationalVintage Motorcycle Drag Race Association (www.VintageDragBikeRacing.com)is dedicated to providing a venue for the older bikes to race. If youwould like more info, go to their website, or better yet, go to theirforum and get involved.
Item two on my list is the closing of the Maxton Mile. For those of youwho don't know what the Maxton Mile is, think Bonneville - East Coast. Why am I interested in a track closing????? Because they moved their races to Wilmington, Ohio!!!! This will be 9000 feet of high speed heaven! The events are run by the East Coast Timing Association and theirwebsite is www.ECTA-LSR.com. Again, visit their website and get involved.
Last on my list if the up and coming sport of electric vehicle racing. My home track of www.PittsburghRacewayPark.com hosted an event in 2011that I'm sorry to say, I wasn't able to attend. But I'm hoping that I will be able to make it in 2012. This series of races is run by the East Coast Electric Drag Race Association (www.ECEDRA.com). Years agoI scored a complete drive train from a Harley-Davidson electric golfcart. I'm wondering if I can put this unit in a motorcycle frame and dosome electric racing. Just sayin'.
Oh, one other thing. There's an organization up in New England called theHoleshot Drag Race Association (HDRA, 100footdrags.com). Their races are all run in 100 feet. They've been using straight-aways of circle tracksfor their events. I've exchanged some emails with the guy that runs this organization and he may hold an event in our area (southwestern PA). I'vesuggested Beaver Run (they already hold several events from the FlashlightDrags so they are familiar with the procedure) or maybe Sunset Dragwayup in Mercer, PA. Anyway, 100 foot drags also sound like fun. Time willtell if we see an event in our neck of the woods.
Well, that's about it for now. As soon as I can find a program replacementor I have any more info on the new events I mentioned, I'll post it here.
